Community: How to build community as an introvert
We’re part of a community with small children and have recently begun connecting with other parents who are in a similar season of life. It’s a warm, welcoming group—full of easy conversation and open energy. I, on the other hand, need time to feel at ease in new spaces.
“Today, for example, my deep introversion showed up in full force. Still, I chose to move through the discomfort—and I’m so glad I did. I connected with genuinely good people who ended up sweetening my Sunday”
So how does one build community as an introvert, especially in the beginning?
• Be the first to plant the seeds—smiles and hellos matter. They may not always be returned right away, but some will land.
• Ask about groups or events. Some people may take your number and follow up quickly; others may take time. Trust that connection unfolds at its own pace.
• Stay with the discomfort. Even when conversation feels effortful, try. Showing up is often the bravest part.
One life—live it with intention, courage, and kindness.
