Leading with Kindness: It’s okay not to fit in.
Sometimes the kindest thing we can do — for ourselves and for others — is to recognise where we belong and where we do not.
Today I attended a wonderful International Women’s Day event and had the opportunity to speak with several inspiring and thoughtful women.
Towards the end of the event, as people were beginning to leave, I found myself in conversation with a small group of ladies. After a few minutes, I sensed that we did not have much in common. Still, I continued the conversation, trying to find some shared ground.
Eventually, I gently stepped away. And surprisingly, it felt very good.
“In that moment I realised something simple but important: I did not quite fit into that conversation — and that was perfectly okay”
Sometimes we stay in situations longer than we need to, trying to make something work that simply does not. But if the shoe does not fit, as the saying goes, it is okay to give yourself grace and move on with kindness.
Not every space is meant for us, and that is not a failure — it is simply part of finding where we truly belong.
Leading with kindness, courage and intention.
