Fight for Joy

Sometimes, a negative comment or action from a loved one can disrupt our joy—that sense of optimism, peace, lightness, and hope.

Our day might be going smoothly, filled with positivity and smiles, and then, unexpectedly, we let a single remark or action derail us. At times, it affects us so deeply that we lose sight of the precious moments in life, inadvertently squandering time. Time that could be spent being kind and thoughtful, reading a book, trying a new recipe, or simply resting.

When it feels like our joy is slipping away, we can pause and reflect by asking ourselves these questions to get it back:

  • What triggered my disappointment, anger, or frustration, leaving me stuck and unable to enjoy this moment? write it down or talk it out.
  • If it was something someone said or did, how will letting it steal my joy today affect my sense of peace tomorrow? write it down or talk it out.
  • Have I stepped back, taken a deep breath, or gone for a walk to clear my mind?
  • Am I willing to fight for my joy?

If the answer is yes, then fight for it—and forgive. Forgiveness is the best medicine for living a wonderful life. It releases tension and benefits our health, which hopefully strengthens our “joy” muscles.

Sometimes, fighting for joy means envisioning tomorrow and realising how much lighter and freer we’ll feel when we forgive and choose kindness toward ourselves and others.

One life, live it with kindness, courage, and joy.

xx
