Leading with Kindness: Be the first
Some of us had been reading messages on WhatsApp, complaining and sharing photos of the dirty pavement outside our apartment building for days. Eventually, one neighbor quietly took it upon himself to clean it—for all of us.
I thanked him in person and told him how kind he was. He simply replied, “This is just who I am,” with calm confidence. In that moment, I saw his kindness, his thoughtfulness, and his standards—doing what’s right even when no one is watching.
His example reminded me what it means to be a good neighbor, and it inspires me to be an even better one—especially in a world where there will always be “takers” or “complainers.” If you’re committed to a place or a community, make time to be kind. Be the first.
One life. Live it with kindness and intention.
