Get up and stand
Some people can’t stand.
Many people live with conditions that mean standing or moving freely isn’t possible. And that’s something worth remembering.
But many of us can stand. We simply forget to.
“We sit for hours — at desks, on sofas, scrolling on our phones — often without realising the effect it has on our bodies. Research has shown that long periods of sitting are linked with back pain, reduced circulation, poorer posture, and increased risk of conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Our bodies simply weren’t designed to stay still all day.”
And yet something so small can make a difference.
Standing up.
Stretching your arms.
Rolling your shoulders.
Doing a few squats beside your desk when you remember.
I’ve been finding real joy and gratitude in simply standing up and stretching throughout the day. Right now, as I write this, I’m standing — and it feels good.
One of the great gifts of being alive is that we get to move our bodies.
So today, if you can, take a moment. Stand up. Stretch. Walk across the room.
Have you stood up from your desk or bed today and stretched?
That small moment of movement can feel like joy.
One life.
Live it with kindness, joy, and courage.
