Leading with Longevity: Criticism

Criticism carries both power and poison.

When it’s offered with love and received with humility, constructive criticism can help shape us into better people. It challenges us to grow if we take it in and apply it with wisdom.

But not all criticism is good. The bad kind—rooted in unforgiveness, gossip, or constant complaining—only weighs us down. It doesn’t heal, it harms.

Consider: the next time we feel tempted to criticize—even with “good intentions”—let’s pause. Take a breath. And ask ourselves: Is this coming from a place of love, anger, or disappointment? Or from something else entirely?

Because if we want to live well and lead well, if we want to be healthy and build real community, we’ve got to release the kind of criticism that poisons our spirit. Carrying that weight will only hold us back.

Let’s choose words that lift, not tear down.

This post is inspired by a podcast on forgiveness in the bible I recently listened to and some recent life experiences.

Thanks for reading.

One life, live it with kindness, courage, and intention.
